INTRODUCTION

To meet the American standards of rigorous extra curricular activities that makes a student stand out it is necessary to focus on projects that:

专注于以下几个课题能使学生达到美国严格的课外活动标准,让学生能stand out

1-A student gets first hand experience in directly working on and carefully documenting.

1. 学生直接动手实验和细致严谨的资料分析

2-The student sets out to solve a clearly stated objective of national or international noteworthy value.

2. 学生能清晰的陈述观点。达到国际化的参考价值。

3-Thus this objective has to be at least a national or international problem/issue that a western / American audience or Admissions Officers can easily relate to.

3. 这个观点必须是西方或者美国的听众或者官方能够轻易联系到的国际性的问题

4-The student’s design, strategy, procedure, results, discussions of results and conclusions have to be in accordance with western unbiased research standards and at the very least publishable – and preferably in English. At best it should be prototyped into a real product.

4. 学生的设计,策划,过程,结果,对结果的讨论和总结需要达到西方的研究标准和最低的发表标准,当然还有出色的英语水平。当然,最好的是能够给出最终的成果。

1-      SMART DEVICE PROTOTYPING PROJECT

智能机器的样机研究课题

MODKIT is an MIT Scratch program that can be used to program Industrial Robots or Turn any electronic device into a Smart Device.

MODKIT 是一个MIT Scratch项目,它能被用来编辑工业机器人的程序或者将任何电子设备智能化。

Target Results: We will use this program to design and build a program, just like we did for the online game lesson, but this time to control a microcontroller chip that will make a device of our choice a smart device. Test the product & Publish findings.

目标结果:我们会用这个程序来设计和开发一个程序,就像我们在线游戏课上做的一样。但是这一次是要控制能将我们选择的机器变成智能机器的微控芯片。测试机器并发布研究结果。

2-GOOGLE PREDICTION ALGORITHM & MIT SMILE WIDGETS PROJECT

Google 的预测算法和MIT Smile Widgets 课题。

We will design, structure and build a prediction web application.

It will start as a Mood and Sentiment HTML5 Web application that that uses MIT SMILE widgets for visualization and tracking the Mood or Sentiment of people in different Chinese cities relative to e.g. Amounts of online published air pollution levels / or top trending stories in Chinese blogs & microblogs / etc. The tracking will also keep a corpus of the info while plotting it in real time online. This corpus of info will then be a solid basis for future predictions of desired trends in Chinese society.

我们会设计,构架并建立一个预测的网站应用。

我们将用Mood and Sentiment HTML5 网站应用程序,MIT SMILE widgets用作可视化和跟踪中国不同城市人们情绪的应用。比如说在线发布空气污染等级,或者中国博客和微博上最受欢迎的帖子等等。跟踪程序也会生成一个信息文集当它被真正在线使用的时候。这个信息文集能变成一个预测未来中国社会人们所期望的趋势的稳固的基础。

Target Results: Build the Web App & Analyze collected results and publish findings.

目标:建立网站应用,分析并收集结果然后发布探索过程。

3-QUANTIFIED SELF EXPERIMENTS AND SUMMER SYMPOSIUM

量化的自我实验和暑期研讨

The task will be to arrange and plan a formal Symposium in Beijing. We will publicize then run summer long social monitoring experiments for eg something common among Chinese teenagers that you can think of. Record this phenomenon’s data every day in an Excel file. At the end of the summer everyone combines the data. We analyze it and publish and present the results at the Quantified Self Symposium in Beijing.

这个课题会计划一个在北京的正式的研讨。我们会宣传然后运行长时间的社会检测试验。比如说一些中国青少年平常会想到的想法或行为。每天在Excel里记录下现象和数据。在暑假结束时,每个人综合自己的数据,我们会分析它然后在研讨会上演讲。

Target Results: Finish the experiments, publish and present results at Conference.

目标:完成试验,将结果在研讨会上演讲。

4-ENERGY HARVESTING SYSTEM

能源收获系统

This task will involve designing and computing the parameters for a proposed design to build an energy harvesting system that will make it possible for Electric Vehicles to travel much longer distances e.g. 400 km without any need for stopping to re-charge their batteries. We will not build the electric car, but just the energy harvesting small component only. If this project is successfully finished – we will enter it into the Annual Canadian Environmental Research Project Competition worth USD10 Million prize.

这个课题会包含设计和为被提议的设计编辑参数去建立一个能源收获系统。这个系统能够使电动汽车不间断行驶超过400km的路程。我们不会造一辆电动汽车,只是能源收获这个小元件而已。如果这个课题成功结束了,我们会加入加拿大年度环境探索课题大赛,有可能获得一千万美金的奖励。

Target Results: Build Then Test the component & Publish the test results

PROGRAM OFFERINGS

课题要求:

What is included:

1-      Each student gets to work on 2 Guided Research Projects during the 5 Week Intensive Summer Program culminating in submission of their researches’ findings for publication.

每个学生需要在五个星期的时间里完成两个研究课题最终提交他们的研究结果。

2-      Each student will get priority in their Recommendation Letter drafting of which will include the detailed info on the student’s 2 hands-on research experience covered during this program.

每个学生会优先获得他们的推荐信草稿,包括了详细信息和课题中所包含的二手实验经验

3-      Students will be provided the basic material resources for the research work plus background scientific concepts and engineering procedures for each topic.

学生会被提供课题所需要的最基础的材料内容和背景科学知识以及每个课题所应了解的工程过程。

4-      Students will be provided with guidance and learning-by-making leadership throughout the process to enhance their i) Research skills, ii) Real world research related problem solving skills iii) Product development skills iv) Business skills.

学生在此过程中会被提供说明以及 learning-by-makingleadership1.探索技巧,2. 真实世界与实际问题的关系和解决技巧3.成果扩展技巧4.商业技巧。
